Liberate Your Hips and Lower Back
Welcome to Liberate Your Hips & Lower Back.
This three-part Feldenkrais workshop invites you to explore the relationship between your breath, hips, pelvis and lower back, discovering new possibilities for movement through gentle, guided awareness.
Find a quiet space where you can lie comfortably, and give yourself time to listen and explore without rushing. There's no need to stretch, push or achieve a particular result. Simply follow the guidance, move within your comfort and notice what you experience.
You can work through the lessons at your own pace.

Lesson 1. Paradoxical Breathing
This lesson invites you to explore the structures involved in breathing and how they relate to your lower back, pelvis and hips. The diaphragm connects with these structures through its relationship with the psoas muscle. You’ll explore these connections while lying on your back, lying on your front and moving on all fours. Take your time, follow the guidance with curiosity, and notice what you discover without forcing or controlling your breath.

Lesson 2. Getting to know your hip joints
This lesson invites you to discover where your hip joints truly are. They may not be quite where you imagine.
Through gentle, guided movement, we’ll explore the relationship between your lower back, pelvis and belly, discovering how these parts come together to create a fold at the front of the hip.
As you move, you’ll have the opportunity to develop a clearer sense of your hip joints and how they participate in movement.

Lesson 3. Free your hip joints for agility
This lesson brings together the explorations from the previous two lessons. Having explored the relationship between your breathing structures and pelvis, and developed a clearer sense of your hip joints, we now begin to integrate these discoveries into more connected movements.
Through gentle rotation and side-bending, we’ll invite the arms, chest and head to join in, gradually exploring movements that involve more of the whole body.
